Here is an excellent question that I get sometimes: “Is it okay to submit the same article to multiple article submission sites?”

Sometimes people are afraid to do this, and that fear is completely unfounded. Let’s start by looking at the purpose of an article directory.

Article submission sites (aka article directories) are like libraries. They specialize in having content (free reprint articles) on all sorts of topics that can be “checked-out” for free, like in a library.

The difference is that with a library you need to bring the book back eventually, whereas the articles on directories do not need to be “returned”.

Publishers go to the article directories looking for content for their websites. They find an article that they like, and they may reprint that article for free, with the agreement that they will also republish the resource box with its link.

The purpose of an article submission site is to provide free reprint articles for publishers. Each article can be republished a limitless number of times–the more the better.

When you publish your article on a directory, you want it to be republished. That is how you build links, and building links impacts your search engine ranking, which in turn impacts the traffic you receive to your website.

So, article directories are never meant to be the end of the line–you do not publish there thinking that it will be the only place that your article will be published. That is not how article marketing works.

The power behind article marketing is in the republication of the articles.

You write one article, and it gets republished many times. You submit your article one time to a directory, and then let’s say 100 publishers find your article on that directory and put it on their site.

So, from one article submitted to one directory, you created 101 links–the first link came from the directory itself, when you submitted your article there. The other 100 links were the result of publishers finding your article on the directory and republishing it.

Let’s go back to the original question–is it alright to submit the same article to multiple article directories?

The answer is “yes”, and you will benefit greatly if you take the initiative to do that.

If you submit your article to one submission site, then you are totally dependent on the results that that one directory can bring. You do that one submission and you wait, and wait, and wait. Kind of passive, isn’t it?

But, if you submit your article to several directories, then you have helped your cause in two ways:

1 – You are automatically building more links by submitting to more sites. Submit your article to one directory, and you know for sure that you have build one backlink. Submit your article to ten directories, and you know for sure you have build ten new links.

2 – You multiply the opportunities for your article to be picked up for publication, which also multiplies your opportunities for building backlinks.

For example, submit your article to one directory, and then 100 publishers republish your article. That makes a total of 101 backlinks for you as a result of publishing that one article on that one directory.

Not bad, but what if you submitted your article to ten directories with the same result–101 backlinks build as a result of publishing on each site. That’s a big increase, isn’t it?

Would you rather have 101 new backlinks or 1,010?

When you submit your articles to more directories, you drastically increase the number of links that you can create.

Article directories are not expecting that they will be the only website that contains your article–the very purpose of an article submission site is to propagate the republication of articles.

Each article that you write should only be submitted one time to each directory, but you can submit that same article to as many directories as you like.

there are basically 2 kinds of article submitting sites.

Sites that have high standards, but give us high ranking in the search engines
Sites that so not have high standards, but produce back-links

The first one are sites like where I published this article. Editorial team with standards that, sometimes makes it hard to get approved. Believe me. been there done that. But it ranks high and once approved, you get indexed fast.

The second one are sites, where you most of the time do not even have to register and about every article get approved almost instantly. Those sites provide back links.

It looked like a simple title “submit my article”, but as you find out it takes a little more thinking before we can start submitting our article.

Read the guidelines. I can not emphasis this enough. Every site has got his own guidelines. Some let us put links in the article body, some let us only put links in the author box. It is very important  to read the guide lines for every site you want to use, because believe me on this one. There is nothing more frustrating then writing an article and not get approved, because you did not read the guidelines. Been there done that.

So, Think good about what you want to achieve, What site you want to submit, read the guidelines. But most of all use you common sense and write articles with:

plain and good English.
use a spelling checker.
targeted to your keyword.

So the question is how do you go about doing this? Just like promoting any other type of web sites, you need to have a plan before you start, and also, you need to diversify your promotional methods. This way you can find out which ones are working and which ones are not. Not only that, but more importantly, if something ‘bad’ happens to your account (i.e. Banned from a forum or article site deleted your article by mistake) you will have other sources to drive traffic to your website. With all that being said, here’s a list of things you should do after launching your PHP Dir Submit site.

As a result, all the submission details are wiped out from the database. Users will then have to resubmit their site and queue the backlog.

To maintain the Dmoz directory, the editors have set up a submission guidelines. If the users violate these policies, their site will be deleted from the database. Before submitting to the Dmoz directory, you should take some time to read the submission guidelines.

Determine if the Site is Appropriate for Submission

The Dmoz directory has several strict requirements on the websites they accept. Mirror sites are not allowed. Mirror sites refer to sites that contain same content but use a different URL. Sites that contain similar content of sites which are already listed in the directory will also be rejected. For example, an affiliate site is not recommended for submission since the official site is already listed in the dmoz directory. The URL should not be submitted multiple times. Generally, you should only resubmit after 3 months if it is still not approved in the directory. The site which you submit must not redirect to a different address. In addition, site with illegal content such as pornography, or material that infringes the intellectual copyright protection will not be considered for submission.

Next, you should check the directory to make sure your site is not already listed. After that, you must identify the right category for the site. The open directory has a lot of categories which you can choose from so there should be one category that is relevant to the site. If you submit to an unrelated category, the site may be rejected. You should submit the website to the lowest level of category. Some categories don’t have the suggest URL link. If the categories don’t have the suggest URL link, it means the site cannot be submitted to the category. Sites with pornographic content will also be declined by the editors.

When submitting the site to Dmoz, make sure it is already finished. There should not be a single page that is under construction. If there is any part of the site that is unfinished, you should finish it first before submitting to the Dmoz directory. Sites that has under construction sign are less likely to get listed.

Submitting the Site

After selecting the best category, you can click on the suggest URL link. The submission page contain a submission guidelines. The descriptions should be brief and accurately describe all the content on the site. The description should only describe the site and cannot contain promotional words. If the description is more promotional than objective, the approval time for the site will be delayed since the editor will have to spend time to correct the description. Using auto submission software to submit to Dmoz directory is a violation of the Dmoz submission guidelines. The site which are submitted through an automatic software will be recorded into the blacklists. Sites in the blacklists will be prohibited from being listed in the directory. The Dmoz directory will not send an email notification to inform that your site is deleted. If you persistently use automatic submission, your IP address will be banned. Once they banned your IP address, you will no longer access the site.

After You Submit the Site

After submitting the site, the editor will review your submission to see if it meet with the requirement to be listed in the directory. If there is a long backlog in that particular category, it will take a longer time for the site to approve. Sometimes, if the editor is online, it can immediately approve the site within a few minutes. Submission of different URL from the same site is not encouraged.

After the site is listed on Dmoz, it will take 2 weeks for the search engine spiders to crawl the site. Dmoz are supported by many major search engines such as Yahoo, Google, Bing, Ask.com and others. If the site did not appear on the search engine after 2 weeks, you can contact the editor.

If you want to speed up the approval time, make sure the site don’t have broken links. You can use an broken link checker to check the link on the site. In addition, the site navigation should be user friendly. Typically, the user should not click more the two links in order to get the destination page. The content on the site should be unique. Site with professional template usually get approved much faster. The most important thing is that the site must provide useful information for the public. The information must not be already provided by the sites listed in Dmoz directory. For example, you can submit a site about that teaches people how to create embroidery of designs which is developed by you.

Update Your Site Title and Description

Sometimes, the editor will make modification to the title and description of the listing. If you are unsatisfied, you can send a request by using the update URL form. You should always be polite and show respect to the editor otherwise your listing will be deleted. In the update URL form, you must include the reason why you want to make the modification and how you want them to be corrected. Generally, it will take up to 3 days for the editor to respond.
